In fact this is another of my "secret weapons". I've learned something important about myself over the years, and you may find that the same thing applies to you. Here it is:

I will procrastinate and avoid working on a project if it seems to be too difficult, time consuming, complex, or intimidating.

Interestingly, if I trick myself into believing that I'm only going to work on it for 30 minutes or so, I ALWAYS feel motivated to continue beyond the initial 30 minutes and accomplish much more than I planned. It's my own perception that something will take a lot of time or be extremely difficult that gives me pause.

Give this idea some thought and you might discover that you do the same thing, and we are not alone in that habit. The start is the hardest part for many people, so beginning with a very small commitment is a good way to get over that hump. Then you can gradually push yourself to put in longer periods of time.

The important thing is to simply get moving on a regular basis. You'd be amazed at what you can accomplish in even small bursts of activity.

Now for the big question: how do you juggle your priorities? Sometimes it can seem like there simply aren't enough hours in the day to accomplish everything we want to do. I won't kid you; you will need to be creative about making your focus a priority. Beyond simply "making time" to work on your goals, you will need to make some crucial decisions on a moment-to-moment basis.

You might be tempted by a great television program, an invitation to go out with friends, a spouse that demands some quality time, and more. You will NOT need to neglect the other areas of your life to keep a strong focus. In fact, doing so is usually a very bad idea.

Instead, think about the non-essential activities you do on a daily or weekly basis, and decide which of them can be lessened or eliminated to allow more time for staying focused on your goals. While it's not healthy to eliminate ALL of your hobbies and recreational activities, you can certainly learn to balance them with your other priorities.

Corporate Values reflect a company's culture. The values make that the culture is to be communicated which is a difficult task. To understand a suitable value statement for a company, one should understand what culture is and whether the statement really represents the culture of the company.

Simply said: culture is what a group of people have in common, for example facing similar questions and problems because they operate in a similar business. This is the internal element of culture, the other one is external oriented: in what environment does this group of people operate and how does this affect them. How do they interact with the environment?

Social responsibility is obviously a value that is focused on this second element: the interaction of the group (corporation) with its environment.

How it could work: a social responsible company charges more for their products and uses some of the profit margin for social projects...

A first question to ask about corporate values is whether a value should be used as such, like: "entrepreneurial," "client focused" and also this one "social responsibility" are values that you'd better not use in the corporate values statement. The reason is that they are too vague.

Yet they appear in value statements:

Social Responsibility. We are committed to a culture of being friendly to the environment meeting a high corporate citizenship standard, protecting the health and safety of our employees and impact positively on the communities where we operate... A strong sense of social responsibility... etc.

So what does this mean?

A company like Siemens, a conglomerate of which social responsibility could really be an issue, is investing in Africa in projects to make energy available for the development of small villages. The idea is that energy in Africa is one of the main problems that withholds development and Siemens could play a role there.

Sure.

But does Siemens add the social responsibility to their set of values? No: Siemens' corporate values are: "responsible, excellence and innovative." Once you have defined "responsible," social responsibility is managed automatically, but not as a corporate value, it is not a value that is shared amongst the employees.

Another reason not to use social responsibility is that it is not a value that can be translated to individual behavior. Imagine that two people meet each other on a holiday and they find out to work both for Siemens: would you think they feel related because of Siemens' Social responsible role in energy projects in Africa? That is too far away and not (emotionally) connecting people and therefore not a cultural element.

Besides this view there is another view on social responsibility and that is the value of long term relations with the (social) environment versus short term business success. Social responsibility is another way of making sure a company does not only focus on the short-term benefits of stakeholders.

Another example is Microsoft and the Gates foundation. This is another view on social responsibility: a clear separation of business (Microsoft) and a responsible role in the global society (Gates Foundation).

One reason to keep these areas separated is that with the concept of social responsibility one enters the arena of politics. On the internet I found this statement: "Responsible business leaders know that business cannot succeed if society fails..." but still, call this a business opportunity and a marketing issue rather than a social responsibility.

Let's take another example: Google's social responsibility. For example Google could be held responsible for the increasing junk on the internet. In addition to every time indexing more pages it could operate as a police-officer so that surfers do not litter.

From then he entered the healthcare / pharmaceutical sector starting as a managing (director) at Hoechst Roussel Veterinaria in Spain to become later President and CEO of Hoechst Marion Roussel, in Japan (in 2000).

He continued in the pharmaceutical sector as the chairman, President and CEO of Aventis Pharma Ltd. in Japan in 2002. Than, president of Amersham Health, Chief Operating Officer and member of the Board of Directors in 2004. The company Amersham was acquired by GE (healthcare) of which Loescher becomes President and CEO (of GE Healthcare Bio-Sciences).

Whereas Samsung could arguably be called king of the slider design phones, and Nokia leader when it comes to features in their handsets, Sony Ericsson has always been the strongest manufacturer when it’s come down to normal candy-style mobile phones. Their latest model, the T650i, is another solid entry to this category, although this time Sony Ericsson may have priced it outside their core market.

One of the first things you’ll notice about the Sony Ericsson T650i is the rather unique design. With a stainless steel top half couple to a more traditional plastic bottom half, it’s certainly a model that stands out from the crowd, especially with its assorted colour schemes. When you hold this handset, it definitely feels like something that could take a bit of damage.

Design-wise, though, it’s not all substance with style. The handset buttons are a lot smaller than your average handset, even those from Sony Ericsson in the past, which have been small enough. On the T650i, however, the keypad buttons are almost too small, and as such may cause problems for a lot of users.

The screen on the T650i is a lot better than on previous models, though, due to its mineral LCD build. Just by looking at it you can tell that it won’t scratch easily, which is always a bonus in this day and age of combined work and personal use. The only real drawback with the front design is that the expansion slot is located behind the battery cover – you have to remove that first if you want to expand the memory. It’s a design that more companies are going for, though it seems a strange decision in practice.

Another problem is that although the screen is heavy-duty when it comes to standing up to pressure, sadly the same can’t be said for its image quality. Sony Ericsson are quite rightly congratulated for picture quality on their Cyber Shot range of camera phones that you’d think it’d be easy to at least transfer some of that knowledge to the rest of its handsets. Not so here – although images look fine of the phone itself, if you’re transferring to a computer the story’s different. The stills look washed out, and for a lot of people who use their phones to upload to MySpace, etc, that’s not acceptable.

Sound quality is better, though, which isn’t really surprising considering the company’s reputation in this area. Everything from MP3 to AAC and eAAC+ are supported, as is an FM radio, and when you listen to these through a dedicated Bluetooth headset, the results are fairly impressive. This transfers to the call quality as well, which is clear and loud enough without ever being too loud.

One really cool feature is the light show that Sony Ericsson has deemed to include with the T650i. Although it might appear gimmicky, having a series of luminous lights traveling up and down your phone when a text message arrives never gets tiring! As an added bonus, you get time-controlled themed wallpapers – so if it’s Christmas, you get a festive backdrop, whereas on Valentine’s Day you’ll see hearts. Not groundbreaking, but a nice little touch.

Add in a little desktop stand for you to place the phone in when not in use, and you’ve got yourself a pretty good little package with the T650i. However, at the price that Sony Ericsson is aiming at, you would be forgiven for expecting just a little bit more.

DesignLooking at the reflective surface of the phone, you might be reminded of LG's Shine model, which also turned into a mirror when idle. This one's a bit of a fun-house mirror though -- because of the angles, your face will look distorted when you look into it. Not great for the self-esteem, but quite nifty for blinding enemies by harnessing the power of the sun.
Even though the U700 looks metallic, it's actually pretty plasticky, and doesn't feel as solid as the Shine. When we were reviewing the Shine, we dropped it a few times -- accidentally -- and there was no damage. We'd be a lot more concerned about dropping the U700, so take note if you're someone who tends to get a bit slap-happy with your possessions.
Of course, the upside to the plastic construction is the fact that the handset weighs barely anything. In fact, the size and the weight are our favourite bits about this phone -- it's 85 grams and just over 12 millimetres thick.
Samsung has gone for a sparse approach when it comes to buttons and ports. Tucked into the bottom on the left side of the phone are a volume key and a proprietary socket for charging, USB connection and a headset. Stashed on the right are a camera shortcut key and a microSD slot. The keys on both sides are placed very low, making volume adjustment and quick camera access a bit of an awkward endeavour.
Below the 240 x 320-pixel display are two more of-the-moment inclusions: touch-sensitive keys and a scroll wheel. PerformanceWe found that the camera suffered from a significant lag between pressing the shutter button and capturing the snap. Although images didn't show too much blurring as a result, the delay is long enough to cause impatience if you're a frequent phonecam user.
