Nokia 6280 - Small Dynamite

'Good things come in small packages'... that's the latest buzz in the mobile market. And so we have mobiles becoming slimmer and smaller – as if on a rigorous diet. But with Nokia 6280, the manufacturer breaks the trend and brings forth a rather chunky handset. Note, even though the handset is a little towards a bulkier side, it fits well in a grip and provides a solid feel. It weighs 119g and measures 46 by 100 by 21mm.

Nokia 6280 is a slider phone, which means it comes enabled with a large screen. Further, the screen is bright and sharp, with 240x320-pixel, 262K colour display. This ensures that pictures and videos come out nice and apt, while reading of email and texts do not need a squint. Beside the screen is a located a small VGA camera, that is used for video calling. But what really elevates the status of this handset to a high mid range level device, is its 2 MP camera and a Mini SD slot. The camera comes with a flash and low light night mode. Plus, gallery application lets you view images that can then be sent as a message or even printed via Nokia's XpressPrint technology.

More doze of multimedia comes with a good media player. It can handle 3GPP, H.263 video, MPEG-4, and AMR video. While the music player is very useable and handles MP3/AAC/eAAC+/M4A audio tracks which can also be assigned as ringtones.

The slider mechanism of Nokia 6280 is smooth and unlike other sliders does not make the phone feel heavy at the top. But yes, the design would have been more refined, if Nokia 6280 gave more space at the top of the keypad. The Nokia 6280 is powered by Series 40 interface. The Menu is extremely easy to navigate, and since the whole package is so intuitive, driving through the Menu takes just a few seconds.

The Nokia 6280 is a Dual mode WCDMA/GSM phone. This makes the phone quite suitable for the UK 3G networks. The phone also offers the benefit of EDGE, HSCSD and good old GPRS, to provide convenience no matter what network you choose. There is also full tri-band GSM. And the inbuilt email and a WAP 2.0 ensures you are always in touch. Though the screen is not large enough for a web browsing even when switched to landscape mode.
